It may be 40 odd months on, but the end result the same although via a different scoreline, but City picked up against their neighbours where they left off the last time they met.
A single header from Lewis Grabban was enough to take the points at Portman Road, but the gulf in class is wide. The scoreline should have reflected a greater margin had Grabban taken all his chances, but at the end of the day a clean sheet, three pointts and the Pride of Anglia still intact what more could we ask for. Just the worry over Ryan Bennett being the only down side.
Despite not taking all his chances Grabban is starting to look like a very rare commodity these days a bargain, well supported by Kyle Lafferty makes these two addditions well worth it what it took to bring them here, plus we still have Cameron Jerome to take a bow yet.
Despite the moaning of Mick McCarthy over the missing handshake from his opposite number Neil Adams, who to his credit made a public apology. McCarthy has been around the game long enough to accept this more gracefully than harping on about needing to learn etiquette and whinging about the gulf in money. But then some cannot take defeat in a derby that well and perhaps has nothing much all else to talk about.
There can be little doubts that Ipswich are in decline both on the pitch and on the terraces, the place was quieter than from Derbies I can remember, thank goodness the yellow Army were on hand to make it less like a library.
It has been a good week, nine points from a possible nine, seven goals scored with only one in reply; two clean sheets. long may it continue, that doom and gloom we witnessed with the opening game has lifted and starting to disappear. But I have this horrible gut feeling, that it will start again at the first sign of a slip up;such is the tight rope Neil Adams and his troops are walking with a large amount of fans.
Still I have enjoyed this last week and that is something that I had forgotten, now a nice little Cup run to add even more confidence to all and it will a very good start to this season's journey.
