Steve Bruce is considering teaming Mile Jedinak with Glenn Whelan in the heart of midfield.
The under pressure Aston Villa boss wants tried and trusted performers to help kickstart Villa’s season after back-to-back away defeats.
And Jedinak, one of last season’s top-rated players, could line up alongside the Irishman in the centre against Norwich City on Saturday.
Bruce is under pressure to get results but is pleased to have Jedinak back available.
He’s trained for the past three days and is apparently itching to start.
Ahmed Elmohamdy is also pushing for a return after sustaining a nasty mouth injury which required 30 stitches following a collision with Cardiff City goalkeeper Neil Etheridge last weekend.
His expected inclusion will give Villa much-needed strength, experience and bite in the forward positions.
But the problem Bruce has is up front.
Gabby Agbonlahor is the only senior striker available.
He scored and set up both of Villa’s goals this season but hasn’t had enough of an impact during the two-and-a-half games he’s played in.
Youngsters Callum O’Hare and Keinan Davis are in the squad and could feature.
