Norwich City manager Daniel Farke has defended his decision to let midfielder Tom Trybull leave the club this summer, when he joined Norwich’s Championship rivals Blackburn Rovers on a season-long loan on the final day of the summer transfer window, something which raised eyebrows around some certain sections of the Carrow Road support.

Farke however, stands by the call he made in letting the midefielder leave, and discussing that decision, the Canaries boss told The Pink Un: “He had lots of time but no other club apart from Blackburn called us.

“So we have a decision whether to pay his salary and have an individual coach working with him. Will he lose his value in the future, as he still contracted to us? He can’t play against us and we have the right to call him back in January to allow a different move.

“It is tricky but from the business point of view it was the right decision and also Tom’s big wish.”

Indeed, it seems the decision to let Trybull go is not one that hugely concerns Farke from a football perspective, as he added: “Right now if we are scared Tom wins the Championship title for Blackburn then we should have kept him. We were transparent and honest and even before the summer we told Tom he could leave.”

Reflecting on Trybull’s time at the club, it seems as though Farke feels he has avoided some issues by letting the midfielder move on, as the 43-year-old continued: “We made a decision in the summer, and it was not an easy one. Tom came here originally because of me. He came on trial when no other club in Germany was interested. I got a lot of stick but I said I wanted Tom and no one else. He did brilliantly for us in two seasons.

“But Tom, as a player, always wants to be on the pitch and when he is not he can be a bit moody and his body language is maybe not great.”

Trybull made his debut for Blackburn when he came on as a late substitute in the Lancashire club’s 3-1 defeat to Watford at Vicarage Road on Wednesday night.
