Six Foot Two, Eyes of Blue

Duncan Forbes is After You...   many of us old boys will remember standing and singing that at the tops of our voices a number of years ago.  Today Big Dunc is is need of some more support , only this time it looks like a battle the big man cannot win.

Last year when Ducan's wife Janette announced to a shocked City faithful the Big guy was suffering from the terrible Alzheimer’s disease,  and how the family had to take the heartbreaking decision to move him out of thier home and into care.

I  am not going to go on about what a great player and  leader this man was,  for those who have never seen the guy clad in Yellow, sticking the fear of god into opposing strikers, there are videos on youtube , you know what search for.

I feel a little more honoured than some, as I got to meet the man a few times, once at the courtesy of then manager Ron Saunders who invited me to  travel back in the team's carriage on a train from somewhere up't north.  What a joy for a raw 18 year old, somehow I cannot imagine ever getting that close to players today.

Anyways back to this afternoon and " Duncan Forbes Day’"  where several of the man's team mates will put in an appearence in honour of the ex Captain.   Among those expected to show up are:

Dave Stringer
Martin Peters
Ken Brown
Clive Payne
Geoff Butler
Mervyn Cawston
Tim Sheppard
Peter Silvester
Billy Steele.

You may not have seen him, that he is just a name from City's past .. We simply ask you to Dig deep for the Big Man, he dug even deeper for us all those years ago, with quailities that some of today's Prima Donna's  will never have.

Let's hope and pray that some of Dunc's Leadership, Fighting,  Determination and Spirit inspires the those playing  in Yellow,  to give a little of what he brought to the Team, the Club and Supporters then perhaps they could be seen of  as a true City Hero Duncan Forbes ..  Was and Still Is ...
