Everton have made an enquiry about Norwich's Ben Godfrey as they continue their search for a new centre-back.
However, having already spent big in this transfer window, Everton are only interested in a loan deal, while Norwich would like a substantive purchase.
The Canaries value Godfrey at more than £25m, and unless they are prepared to accept a compromise deal - potentially with an initial loan deal followed by an option to buy - Everton are unlikely to pursue the matter.
Carlo Ancelotti's first choice option - a loan deal for Chelsea's Fikayo Tomori - is making no progress, because Frank Lampard wants more cover with the current absence from the first team of Antonio Rudiger.
