Transfer Rumour: Arsenal Drop Interest In Norwich's Emi Buendia

Despite having tracked him for most of the last year if not longer, it is now being reported in the press today that Premier League side Arsenal are no longer interested inmaking the signing of attacker Emi Buendia from Norwich City.

The 24-year-old has been been a starring man and consistantly a top performer in the EFL Championship this season, scoring seven goals and providing a further seven assists in the 19 games he has been involved in so far.  As with all the various reports and articles that have been around for weeks now, the Gunners were supposedly planning to make a move for him during the January transfer window.

However, as per reports published today by the Express, Arsenal have now withdrawn their interest as Norwich City have sought a transfer fee in the region of £40 million for their in demand player.

The report claims: “Arsenal have decided not to pursue Emi Buendia after Norwich quoted them a £40million fee for the playmaker, according to reports.

“Norwich want £40m for their midfielder, money the Gunners simply don’t have at the current moment in time.”

Emi Buendia has been on fine form for Norwich throughout the 2020-21 season and such a player would very easily uplift the quality and creativity of Arsenal’s forward line for the remainder of this season and beyond.  Anyone who has watched Arsenal regularly would say that Nicolas Pepe and Willian have been really average since the start of the season and right now, it’s young Bukayo Saka who has been doing that right winger’s job for Mikel Arteta's side.

But the amount Norwich City are currently seeking is a long way out of reach for Arsenal, especially since they understood to have other priorities in this transfer window as well.  Mikel Arteta’s primary focus for now has be to find a long-term replacement to Mesut Ozil and bringing in someone of such a world-class stature and reputation will require a lot of money to be spent.
