Norwich City are seemingly closing in on Wigan’s left-sided player Yanic Wildschut, with reports on Sunday afternoon that the Canaries have taken a significant step forward in the race for the 25-year-old.
Alex Neil refused to confirm City had tabled a £4m offer for the Dutchman after Saturday’s 2-0 Championship win at home to Birmingham, with both Norwich and rivals Derby County heavily touted with the attacking wide player.
Wildschut is expected to miss the Latics’ FA Cup tie at Manchester United on Sunday afternoon as he is currently sidelined with a hamstring strain picked up in the win at Burton on January 14.
The former Middlesbrough midfielder joined Wigan in last January’s transfer window for a reported £1m and had scored five goals in his last 10 appearances prior to picking up an injury earlier this month.
Neil has missed out on Marvin Zeegelaar and Mitchell Dijks, as he looks to tee up a potential replacement for Robbie Brady, who is expected to tie up a move to Premier League Burnley, with the Scot reiterating on Saturday evening he would only sanction Brady’s departure if he could bring in reinforcements.
