Transfer Rumour: Norwich City Closing In On Aberdeen Keeper Archie Mair

Norwich City are closing in on Aberdeen goalkeeper, Archie Mair Football Insider understands.

Mair is out of contract in the summer and is reportedly seen as having a big future ahead of him in the game.

Mair is 18 years old and is yet to make a first team appearance for the Dons but he has represented Scotland at U17, U18 and U19 levels. Being a free agent, he is likely to be courted by lots of different clubs but according to Football Insider, the Canaries have given him a tour of the Colney training ground and it’s facilities and a deal now looks likely.

The suggestion here is that Mair is thought of as one for the future, so assuming he likes what he sees and hears, he would join City’s U23 development side initially.

Young players are a key part of the club’s identity now and the continued production of first team capable talent is going to be paramount to the business model currently being operated.

If Mair does join, then for me, it suggests that Aston Oxborough, who is now 21 and ready for first team football, will probably go out on loan next season. That would leave Tim Krul and Michael McGovern as the two senior keepers at the club with the big question being as to whether another experienced pro joins the goalkeeping ranks or not.
