Transfer Rumour: Leicester Join Race for £15m rated Todd Cantwell

Leicester City are reported to have joined the host of clubs considering a January swoop for Norwich’s Todd Cantwell.

The Canaries want around £15m for Cantwell, whose contract expires in the summer, although the club maintains an option to extend it for 12 months

Liverpool, Tottenham, Newcastle, Leeds and Roma are thought to also be keeping close tabs on the young forward's situation.

But if no club meets the valuation and agrees a deal in the current window, it is believed that Norwich intend to trigger the option to keep the former England Under-21 international for another year.

Cantwell, 23, fell out of favour under former Carrow Road boss Daniel Farke after failing to regain form following back and Achilles problems.

The Norfolk-born local lad has not managed to find the back of the net this season, nor provide an assist.

New head coach Dean Smith has given the academy graduate two starts since replacing Farke.

But his future appears to lie elsewhere and the right offer could see him leave in the coming weeks to make a fresh start.

Transfer Rumour: Norwich Quote £15m Pricetag For Todd Cantwell

Norwich City have quoted Newcastle United £15m for Todd Cantwell if they want to purchase him, according to a report.

The Magpies are looking to bolster their squad within this transfer window, with the new owners aiming to financially support Eddie Howe throughout the month.

The club have already bought Kieran Trippier, but they have an interest in strengthening other areas of the pitch, including their midfield options.

According to a report from The Sun, Newcastle are hoping to sign Cantwell, and the Canaries have set a price tag of £15m for the 23-year-old.

Cantwell has only featured eight times in the Premier League this season, and the Magpies are the only club that have expressed a desire to buy him so far in this window.

Norwich currently sit one place below Newcastle in the Premier League table, with both teams involved in the fight for survival this season.

Transfer Rumour: Newcastle Make Cantwell Enquiry

Newcastle United have reportedly made an enquiry for Norwich City midfielder Todd Cantwell as they continue to ramp up their January business.

According to The Telegraph, Todd Cantwell is one of four attacking players subject to an enquiry from Newcastle as they look set to splurge cash to bolster their squad this month. The 23-year-old has six months left on his current deal at Carrow Road, with the Canaries holding a one-year extension option that they will exercise if he stays beyond January.

Newcastle revealed their first January arrival on Friday, bringing England international Kieran Trippier from Atletico Madrid. Indeed, a major statement of intent, it seems the new owners are determined to back the Magpies boss Eddie Howe as they are desperate to avoid relegation. Howe is keen on strengthening multiple areas on the pitch, with adding another midfield option a priority.

Newcastle have recently been linked with a move for Juventus outcast Aaron Ramsey. However, another midfielder also understood to be on their radar is Norwich’s Todd Cantwell, a much younger and cheaper proposition than spending exorbitant amounts in wages on the Welsh international.

Cantwell came through the youth ranks at Norwich City and had a brief six-month loan stint with Dutch outfit Fortuna Sittard before making the step up to Canaries’ first-team squad. Since then, the former England Under-21 international has helped the club gain two promotions to the Premier League.

He grabbed the spotlight in his debut campaign in the top-flight, netting six Premier League goals for the Canaries’ in the 2019/20 season. Regarded as one of the most promising English prospects not long ago, he has since suffered a significant fall from grace, with disciplinary issues hindering his progression.

He has hardly featured for Norwich this term, clocking up just under 450 minutes of footballing action so far. Cantwell fell out of favour with former Canaries’ boss Daniel Farke towards the end of his time at Carrow Road and has failed to impress under new manager Dean Smith.

The report adds that Norwich are open to listening to bids for Cantwell, as the attacking midfielder has informed the club that he will not be signing an extension. The 23-year-old has garnered interest from Leeds United and Aston Villa, but neither club have followed up with an offer as things stand.

And it seems cash-rich Newcastle have also enquired about the English playmaker’s availability. Newcastle have long admired the attacking midfielder’s talents and versatility. They heavily rely on Allan Saint-Maximin as the team’s chief creative outlet. They lack a midfielder to progress the ball from midfield and link up the play. And Cantwell could be that playmaking option.

The 23-year-old boasts good ball control, flair and has the knack of drifting into spaces to create quality opportunities in the final third. His true strengths lie in constructing passing sequences, intelligent movement and connecting play, which would suit the possession-based style of play that Howe wants to implement at Newcastle. Whether or not the Magpies will end up landing Cantwell this month remains to be seen.

Transfer Rumour: Cantwell Linked To Liverpool Move

Liverpool are reportedly interested in signing Norwich City winger Todd Cantwell.

Jurgen Klopp’s side will take a big hit in January as the likes of Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane depart for the Africa Cup of Nations.

The Reds could turn their attentions towards Carrow Road with FourFourTwo reporting that they could look at bringing in Cantwell as a back-up for the remainder of the season.

With only five appearances to his name in the Premier League Cantwell has had a disappointing campaign and is yet to convince Dean Smith of giving him a regular start in the Canaries line-up.

The Sun reported last week that Norwich are willing to listen to offers in the January transfer window as they look to boost their funds for new recruits to help aid their Premier League relegation battle.

With Liverpool looking thin on the wings over the next month FFT suggests Cantwell would be ideal step-in and they could get him for a bargain price.

Others may be interested in putting in offers for the Norwich winger though, with Premier League rivals Leeds United and Aston Villa previously being linked with Cantwell over the past year.

Cantwell’s contract with the Canaries is due to expire in the summer but City have an option to extend the deal for a further year.

Transfer Rumour: Todd Cantwell £40m Target For Both Leeds and Aston Villa

Aston Villa and Leeds target Todd Cantwell will be allowed to leave Norwich City in the January transfer window.

According to a report published in the Daily Mail, the former England youth international is one of the names Dean Smith will allow to leave the club during this transfer window as he seeks to reshape the squad following his arrival. Todd Cantwell has struggled for regular minutes this season under both Dean Smith and previous head coach Daniel Farke, and the winger could now depart Norwich.

According to the report, Leeds are thought to be keen on signing the attacker, with Dean Smith's former club Aston Villa also being linked with Cantwell according to reports in the Express.

The Sun also claimed in the summer that Norwich value the wide-man at £40m, with the Norfolk side already losing Emi Buendia in the previous transfer window to Aston Villa.

Although Cantwell impressed for Norwich in their 2019/20 Premier League season as well as their promotion-winning campaign last year in the Championship, the midfielder has hardly played this term.

Cantwell has played just eight times this season, with only five of these appearances being starts for the Canaries. And with Norwich now open to selling the winger, Villa and Leeds could finally make their move for the 23-year-old.

With Jurgen Klopp a big fan of Cantwell as reported by 90min, the Norwich star is clearly too good to be left unused by a club destined to go down this season, and either Leeds or Villa would be a significant improvement for the winger.

Cantwell has proven he has the quality to perform in the Premier League, and leaving for Norwich for either Leeds or Villa will be a huge leap in the 23-year-old’s career.

Norwich City are reported to be showing an interest in Scotland Under-21 midfielder Elliot Watt.

The young Scottish international, who has started all bar one of Bradford City's games in League Two so far this season, is understood to be out of contract at the end of the current season with Norwich City being one of a number of clubs taking an interest, according to Scottish media outlet the Daily Record.

Watt, a central midfielder, is reported to be considered as a potential option should the Canaries drop down to the Championship next season.

Bradford City manager Derek Adams revealed last month that Watt's agent has fielded a couple of enquiries from other clubs as speculation surrounding the yound starlet's future intensifies.

The report suggests Blackpool are also among those keeping tabs on the 21-year-old, who has made three appearances for Scotland's U21 side.

Watt started his career with Liverpool's academy and also had spells at Blackburn and hometown club Preston during his time as a development player.

It was with Wolverhampton Wanderers where he signed his first professional deal in 2017, making his professional debut a year later in an EFL Cup clash against Sheffield Wednesday.

Watt has played alongside current City loanee Billy Gilmour in the Scotland youth ranks and his technique on the ball has seen him draw praise from a number of coaches, including his current boss Adams.

Speaking about his future last month to the Telegraph and Argus, Watt insisted he remained happy at Valley Parade.

“It’s irrelevant to me - like people giving me stick on Twitter or social media.

“I’m here at Bradford and the most important thing to me is about being the best player I can be in training and then performing for Bradford City on a Saturday.

“Rumours, or whatever you want to call it, mean nothing to me.

“I’m obviously under contract at Bradford City and until I’m not I’ll give my all for the club to get them back to where they should be.”
