Transfer News: Club Record Transfer Fee Agreed For Norwich's Emi Buendia

Aston Villa have agreed a package worth an initial £33m to sign Emiliano Buendia from Norwich City in a record deal for both clubs.

Buendia, who was named Championship player of the season after inspiring the Canaries to promotion back to the Premier League, had also attracted serious interest from Arsenal but his preference remained a move to Villa, whose interest has been longstanding.

Arsenal had offered equivalent personal terms to Aston Villa and were growing confident of completing the signing, however, the final decision remained with Buendia and he informed Arsenal’s technical director, Edu, of his choice on Friday. Norwich respected Buendia’s wish and verbally agreed the deal with Villa that evening.

The Independent understands he will sign a five-year contract worth around £80,000-per-week plus bonuses.

Buendia, who is currently on international duty with Argentina, joined Norwich for just £1.5m from Getafe in 2018, representing a huge profit for the Canaries.

Transfer Rumour: Norwich Chasing Fulham Defender Tosin Adarabioyo

Norwich City are plotting a summer move for Tosin Adarabioyo, according to The Athletic.

The central defender moved to Fulham last summer following their promotion to the Premier League and enjoyed a decent campaign on an individual level despite the club suffering relegation back to the second tier.

Adarabioyo made 34 appearances for Scott Parker’s side, but could now be lined up for a move back to the top flight in the coming months.

Norwich City are gearing up for the challenge of the top flight themselves, and according to Canaries’ reporter Michael Bailey, the 24-year-old defender is one of the options on the club’s radar.

Writing for The Athletic, Bailey said: “Norwich are in the market for a centre-back this summer. It is also likely to be one of their biggest investments; one to break their current £10 million transfer record. And yes, Tosin is a name that features on their list of targets for the current window.

“However, there are a lot of conversations going on at the moment with players that have been nowhere near a speculation column, and I would suspect those names we don’t know are actually higher targets than those we do.”

Transfer Rumour: Norwich In Five Way Tussle For West Brom's Matheus Pereira

West Brom have informed Matheus Pereira that he will be able to leave the Hawthorns this summer if they receive around £15 million for him, according to teamTALK.

Pereira enjoyed a promising season in the Premier League despite the Baggies suffering relegation to the Championship. The attacker managed to chip in with an impressive tally of 11 goals and six assists in his 33 league appearances. That has seen him attract plenty of attention heading into the summer transfer window.

According to the latest report, the likes of Brentford, Brighton, Aston Villa and Leeds United are all in the hunt to secure his signature this summer.

Whilst it is also believed that newly promoted Norwich City are looking at him closely as they search for a potential replacement for Emiliano Buendia should he leave the club.

The report also adds that West Brom are going to allow Pereira to leave the club this summer if they receive the right sort of offer for him.

The Baggies are going to be holding out for around £15 million, but they are also thought to be willing to keep hold of him if that transfer valuation is not met by one of his potential suitors.

Transfer Rumour: Race For Buendia Hots Up As Arsenal Submit Second Bid

Norwich reportedly want at least £40m for Emiliano Buendia, who could soon make his debut for Argentina; One source has told Sky Sports News that Arsenal have put in a second offer worth believed to be worth in the region of £35m after an initial one of £30m was rejected, whilst at the same time Aston Villa also remain interested in 24-year-old attacking midfielder.

Another big European club is said to be interested, and Sky Sports News has reported interest from Atletico Madrid and Valencia in the past.

Buendia is currently part of the Argentina squad preparing for the Copa America but missed out on his debut in the 1-1 draw with Chile on Friday.

The 24-year-old has been a undeniable success story for Norwich City's recruitment policy, with Buendia delivery a total of 24 goals and a further 42 assists since he was signed by the club for just a little over £1m from Spanish side Getafe in 2018.

Transfer Rumour: Norwich City Expected To Launch Bid For Celtic Defender

This morning, The Celtic Star reported that Kris Ajer has expressed his desire to leave Celtic during the summer. Ajer spoke to the Norwegian media and signaled his intent to move on, whilst also stating “Something is going to happen this summer.” Newcastle United and Bayer Leverkusen have been linked with the player, but reports in the Glasgow Times suggest that a bid from Norwich City is now imminent.

The Canaries won the EFL Championship in emphatic fashion and boss Daniel Farke is looking to bolster his squad ahead of a return to the Premier League.

Ajer is reportedly among the players that Norwich would like to bring in to sure up the defence at Carrow Road and the English club’s Director of Football (Stuart Webber) was at Paradise to watch the Norwegian centre back during several SPFL matches last season.

With only one year remaining on his contract, it is unlikely that the Hoops will receive a substantial offer for Ajer, but if Norwich are first to test the water then a bidding war with other clubs may ensue.

Transfer Rumour: Formal Bids In From Arsenal & Villa For Buendia

Arsenal and Aston Villa will test the resolve of Norwich City after reportedly launching £30million bids for Emi Buendia.

The playmaker, recently named the Championship’s Player of the Season, looks set to leave Carrow Road this summer, and was originally linked with an Arsenal move last year, but the Gunners failed to act on their interest.

According to football.london, Arsenal have learnt from their mistake and submitted a formal offer of £30million.

Their bid has been matched by Aston Villa, who also rate the Argentinian highly and want to land his signature.

Norwich sporting director Stuart Webber has made it clear Norwich are open to selling some of their best players in the coming months as it forms part of their business model.

Buendia could follow in the footsteps of James Maddison and Ben Godfrey by taking the next step in his career.

However a deal will depend on the Canaries’ valuation. They won’t want to lose such an influential player for an unsuitable fee.

Arsenal and Aston Villa’s chances of signing Buendia are boosted by the recent comments of Stuart Webber.  He seemed to place a £30million price tag on the 24-year-old’s head earlier this week, saying: “If we do sell, it’s going to be a club-record deal.

“It’s probably going to start with a number three in front of it and that will give us great opportunities to maybe make the whole squad better as well. We’re really relaxed on that front.”

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is hoping to sign Buendia to provide more creativity in his midfield. The player could operate just in front of Thomas Partey and Granit Xhaka, providing a link between them and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang up front.

His stats suggest he’s the perfect man to replace Martin Odegaard, who recently returned to Real Madrid at the end of his loan spell.  Last season Buendia registered 15 goals and 17 assists in 39 games, making him a worthy winner of the Championship’s individual award.

Villa are also interested as they hope to partner Buendia with Jack Grealish. Dean Smith reportedly wants Buendia in a central attacking midfield role next season, while putting Grealish on the left wing so he can cut inside.

Smith is also wary of Villa’s reduced creativity when Grealish is injured, so it’s hoped Buendia can lessen their reliance on their skipper going forward.

Transfer News: Norwich Put £30m+ Price Tag On Top Stars

Norwich City sporting director Stuart Webber has warned clubs looking to sign some of the Canaries’ top stars that a fee of at least £30m will be needed to prise them away.

The Yellows have had a fine year and head back to the Premier League in great shape, with them now looking to build this summer and ensure they stay in the top flight for several years to come.

It’s a well-run club that is financially sound and that has laid the foundations to mean that they are in a position of strength when it comes to clubs looking to sign their players.

Emi Buendia has been linked with Arsenal and Aston Villa, for example, whilst Max Aarons has seen the likes of Newcastle United, Everton and Tottenham touted as interested in him.

And, that said, it’s clear that whoever comes in for them will need to be willing to spend big.

Speaking to the BBC, Webber explained:

“If we do sell one, it’s going to be a club-record deal.

“It’s probably going to start with a number three in front of it and that will give us great opportunities to maybe make the whole better as well. We’re really relaxed on that front.”

Transfer Rumour: Norwich City Links To Celtic's Ryan Christie Continue

Norwich City linked midfielder Ryan Christie from Celtic is now also being targeted by Southampton, as per claims appearing in The Sun on Sunday (30.05.21, pg. 59).  With Celtic now facing a battle to keep hold of the highly rated Scottish international in the summer transfer window.

Christie, who is 26 years old, has been recently linked with Norwich and Burnley, as reported by the Scottish Sun, but reportedly Southampton are now in the running as well as the race for the player hots up.

His contract with the Glasgow team is currently set to expire in January so they may opt to cash in on him over the summer instead of losing him for nothing in 2022.

Norwich are currently preparing for life back in the Premier League after winning the Championship title with relative ease this season.

Daniel Farke’s Canaries are in need of some reinforcements and Christie is someone who would boost their midfield department which currently only has one fit senior player likely to be ready for the start of the new season.

Christie has been on the books at Celtic since 2015 and has been a key player for the Scottish Premiership giants, scoring 41 goals in 141 games for them to date.

He has helped the Hoops win all the trophies they can do during his time at Celtic Park and may fancy a crack at English football now.

Christie started his career at Inverness Caledonian Thistle and broke into their first-team as a youngster before going on to play 76 times for the Highlands club, chipping in with 10 goals.

Celtic came calling six years ago and he established himself as a regular in their side after a loan spell away at Aberdeen.
