Injury Update: Stacey & Mahovo fit with late call to be made on Sargent

Norwich supporters hoping for positive fitness news on fan favourite Josh Sargent, will have to wait until matchday.  USA International Sargent has returned to training but Norwich Head Coach Pulippe Clement  indicated it will be a late call one way or the other in his pre-match press conference

Summer signing Mathias Kvistgaarden continues to be assessed after he featured from the bench as a late substitute against the Saints. The Dane saw a knee specialist the previous week following pain in the same knee that sidelined him at Coventry back in September.

Clement suggested Kvistgaarden's training load is being monitored, with a longer term plan to build up the area around the knee to strengthen the leg.

Jack Stacey and Lucien Mahovo have returned to training over the past week and are available after hamstring and quad issues respectively.

Fit-again duo Shane Duffy and Liam Gibbs did a running session as part of the warm up against Southampton but were not part of the matchday squad.

Clement also delivered an upbeat bulletin on winger Diallo, who is now in light running and on target to re-join the first team group in two weeks.

Transfer Rumour: Barcelona Tracking Norwich and England starlet Ajay Tavares

Barcelona are reported in The Sun to  be set to seal a sensational deal to sign 15-year-old Norwich star Ajay Tavares.

The highly-rated forward has been chased by some of Europe‘s top clubs ahead of January – but the Spanish giants are expected to win the race.

Tavares, who made his senior Canaries debut in a July pre-season friendly against Dutch outfit Volendam, was wanted by Bundesliga giants RB Leipzig and Borussia Dortmund.

But he is heading for the Nou Camp, where the plan is for him to play for their Under-19s before moving up to Barcelona B ahead of a future loan move.

Tavares, who has a Portuguese passport which allows him to move abroad, has been capped four times for England Under-17s.

Tavares would have become Norwich’s youngest player had he featured at any time this season, but is yet to be involved with the first-team in a competitive game.

The Canaries are in the midst of a Championship relegation battle this season, currently sitting 23rd in the league, above only Sheffield Wednesday, who are on minus nine points.

Their Under-18 side, who Tavares currently plays for, have not fared much better, currently sitting 14th of 15 teams in the U18 Premier League South.

Tavares will now continue his development in Barcelona, who have had the likes of Alejandro Balde, Gavi, Fermin Lopez and superstar Lamine Yamal come through their academy in recent years.

Philippe Clement - Norwich Are Showing Clear Signs Of Progression

Norwich City's Belgian head coach Philippe Clement believes their home win over Southampton provided a "clear signal" that the team are making progress towards their initial goal of Championship survival in 2026.

Having lost every game at Carrow Road this season prior to the new Head Coah's arrival, the Canaries have now taken an much improved total of seven points from the last three games at home at Carrow Road.

Summer signing from Lincoln City Jovon Makama scored both goals in the club's 2-1 win against Southampton on Saturday to take his total to six for the season so far, making him joint top scorer at the club alongside Josh Sargent, who was forced to miss the match at the weekend due to concussion protocols.

"All the players who were not in the selection because they're injured or were not selected, they were so happy and were celebrating in the dressing room," Clement told BBC Radio Norfolk.

"You feel how much it meant to all this group of players who have had a lot of knocks the last couple of months.

"It was a very important victory but it's also important not to go in a state of satisfaction, there are still a lot of games to play this season, we have a lot of work to do to make the team better and better and better.

"But there is a clear signal that the team is on the right track for the moment. I see a good progression in this short three weeks together."

Clement said his team had been tactically aware in defence and also showed their ability going forwards.

"They played a really great game with a lot of energy, desire and doing the right things together, the composure to play between lines, to create spaces for ourselves and create more chances than the two goals," he added.

"He [Makama] is a really interesting player. He never played at this level [before] and still needs to learn a lot, but he has the desire to become better - so I'm on top of him to make him better."

There was a key moment at the other end of the pitch in the first half when Vladan Kovacevic dived to his left to push away a penalty from Southampton's Adam Armstrong with the score 0-0.

"He has the quality to save penalties because he is so explosive," Clement said.

"That was a massive moment in the game - if you go behind, things are more difficult because Southampton are a team that is really good on the ball, with a lot of composure and players of Premier League experience."

Norwich are away to Preston North End next weekend and Clement hopes not having a midweek match will enable them to build the fitness of some of their injured players like defender Jose Cordoba who made his return from the subsittues bench on Saturday having missed the previous 13 games.

"If we have to play every three days, they are not ready yet for that, but they can have a good training week where we have more control in what they are doing.

"I'm sure, there will be [some smiling faces at the training ground this week], but there will also be some tired faces."

Transfer Rumour: West Ham After Norwich City's Josh Sargent

According to reports that started circulating on the internet last night and also in the Sun newspaper over the weekend, West Ham manager Nuno Espirito Santo has held transfer talks with club chairman David Sullivan, with the reports suggesting American international Josh Sargent fits the bill for what they the West London club are looking for next month.

The club’s preference is understood to be for a centre forward with a strong physical presence and a player with experience of English football, whether that be at either Premier League or Championship level.

Norwich's Josh Sargent, 25, is valued at around £17.5 million by the club, and the club are aware that West Ham have been keeping tabs on their player. The Hammers are believed to be looking to take their interest forward with a bid in the new year.

Despite a recent upturn in results, the struggling team remain stuck in the bottom three of the Premier League and currently sit two points adrift of safety. Sargent is currently out with a concussion injury sustained in Norwich's match away at Sheffield United on Tuesday night, and is one of a number of players reported to under consideration as West Ham plot their moves for the impending transfer window.

A centre forward is top priority with veteran Callum Wilson leading the line at 34 years old. Fellow striker Niclas Fullkrug wants out of West Ham and his agent went public in saying so last month.

Injury Update: Sargent Out, McClean 'Doubtful' but Cordoba & Gibbs Return

Norwich City's Belgian head coach Philippe Clement has provided an injury update ahead of this weekends match against Southampton on Saturday

Clement confirmed in his pre-match press conference today at Colney that Josh Sargent will unfortunately be unavailable and miss out this weekend as he follows a concussion protocol following his first half exit at Sheffield United on Tuesday.

The American had a rough day or two in the immediate aftermath and will now have to observe clear guidelines before he is available for duty.

Captain Kenny McLean is also seen as a doubt for the Saints' visit after a 'blocked hip' saw him withdrawn as a precuation half time in the game against Sheffield United at Bramall Lane.

Summer signing Mathias Kvistgaarden, who was not involved at Sheffield United, is being monitored on a daily basis with head coach Clement indicating that he had trained in the past 24 hours, having had a further assessment that included a visit to see a knee specialist about his issues.

The Canaries Head Coach also went on to confirm that Jose Cordoba and Liam Gibbs are available for selection for the game on Saturday.

Central defender Harry Darling is back from his one match suspension and also available for selection, as the list of unavailable players gets slightly shorter for Norwich.

Lucien Mahovo was reported to have trained for the first time on Friday after a lengthy lay-off with a quad injury. However the young left back is not ready for this weekend. Jack Stacey is also back in training but the experienced right back is rated to be 'touch and go' for Southampton by Clement.

Youngsters Elliot Myles and Manny Adegboyega are both in training. Centre back Adegboyega did a running session pre-match at Sheffield but Clement revealed he is also training with the club's development squad with a number of senior centre backs ahead of him in the queue.

Gabe Forsyth, Jeffrey Schlupp and Papa Amadou Diallo are not in contention for the upcoming game, but Shane Duffy and Ben Chrisene did return at Bramall Lane.

Anis Ben Slimane also played his first minutes since a League Cup defeat to Southampton on August 26, after a quad injury.

Transfer Rumour: West Ham Interested In Norwich City's Josh Sargent

According to reports circulating on the internet, West Ham manager Nuno Espirito Santo has held transfer talks with club chairman David Sullivan, with the reports suggesting American international Josh Sargent fits the bill for what they the West London club are looking for next month.

Injury Update: Philippe Clement Speaks On Sargent & McClean Injuries

The thing no fan wanted in the draw at Bramall Lane was the sight of Club Captain Kenny McClean and USA International Striker Josh Sargent both being withdrawn with Injuries.  This came on top of £6.9m summer signing Mathias Kvistgaarden withdrawing from the matchday squad with a recurrence of his kneww injury

"Sarge got a knock, we need to assess how it is with him. With Kenny, his hip locked in the first half, you saw it with the way he was running, it was not his normal style," Canaries Head Coaxch Clement told reporters.

"We took him off at half-time to prevent that he got a bigger injury and we will see over the next few days if they will be ready for Saturday.

On the subject of Mathias Kvistgaarden's injury  "He had rehab, he started training and playing again, he felt good, but this week he felt his knee again in the same place so we need to make an assessment with the knee specialist so we know what's the best action to take," Clement explained.

Injury Update: Duffy expected to return as Darling Suspended

Shane Duffy is hoped to be back in action in time for Norwich's clash with Sheffield United at Bramall Lane on Tuesday this week.

With Harry Darling suspended after picking up his fifth yellow card in the heartbreaking 3-2 defeat to Watford in the Championship and Jose Cordoba still recovering from injury, the Canaries are starting to look short of defensive options for the game.

"Shane had a slight muscle strain earlier in the week which kept him out of the more challenging training," explained Norwich Head Coach Philippe Clement. "He has been back in training over the last few days but after discussions with the medical team we have decided that it is best to keep him on the bench, especially given his history of calf injuries. He trained on Saturday and I am confident he will be ready for Tuesday."
