Transfer Rumour: Norwich Tracking West Ham's Andy Irving

Reports have surfaced today in the EDP that Norwich City have been scouting West Ham's Andy Irving in their quest for midfield reinforcements following Mirko Topic's season ending injury

Irving fits the profile of this central midfield role as the Canaries aim to add to ease the load on first choice duo Kenny McLean and Pelle Mattsson.

The 25-year-old left footer has only played seven minutes of Premier League football for the Hammers since late October, and is now in the final six months of his current deal.

Irving, who was an unused substitute for West Ham's FA Cup extra-time win over QPR on Sunday, is believed to be attracting interest from Championship rivals, and clubs abroad after a previous spell in Austria.

Sunderland Amongst Premiership Clubs Interested In Gabriel Sara In January

Sunderland have been linked with former Norwich City fans favourite Gabriel Sara, with a fresh report from Turkey claiming the North East team are among a number of Premiership clubs monitoring the Galatasaray midfielder’s situation.

The claim comes from Turkish sports journalist Yakup Çınar, who first reported on X that Sara’s agent is due to meet Galatasaray officials this week, with both Sunderland and Fulham described as “seriously interested” in the player. He said: "Gabriel Sara's agent will be coming this week to meet with the management. Fulham and Sunderland are seriously interested in the player."

He made his name in England with Norwich City, where he developed into one of the Championship’s standout midfielders. Signed originally by the Canaries from São Paulo in 2022 for a feww of around £6million plus add-ons, the Brazilian central midfielder quickly became a key figure at Carrow Road. His performances earned him Norwich’s Player of the Season award in 2023, as well as a place in the Championship Team of the Season the following year, after also being named Player of the Month in August 2023.

That form then encouraged Galatasaray to make their move last summer, with the Turkish giants going on to sign Sara on a five-year contract in August 2024. Since then, he has featured regularly in the Süper Lig and has already made an impact in high-profile fixtures, including scoring away against fierce rivals Fenerbahçe in the Intercontinental Derby.

From a Sunderland perspective, his profile is an interesting one. Sara is technically strong, comfortable in possession, and capable of contributing goals and assists from midfield, all qualities that would align with Régis Le Bris’ tactical demands that he places on his team. His previous success in English football would also reduce the adaptation risk often associated with overseas signings.

Transfer Rumour: Norwich Interested In Charleroi's Winger Parfait Guiagon

Norwich have reportedly been considering bringing Royal Charleroi SC’s Ivorian winger Parfait Guiagon this month, with Glasgow Rangers also linked with the player.

The attacker can operate on both sides, although he’s been almost always on the left wing in recent years.

According to the story published by 225 Foot, Norwich City would like to finalise the deal in this window.

This claim has been picked up in Belgium over the past 24 hours or so. With both Rangers and Norwich City reportedly in the mix

Guiagon has been with the Belgian club since 2023, playing 88 matches in total. He’s scored 20 goals and contributed 15 assists, of which seven goals and two assists are from this season.

Transfer Rumour: Josh Sargent Subject to $18m Bid From Toronto FC

Toronto FC have reportedly submitted an $18 million bid for USMNT striker Josh Sargent, but Norwich manager Philippe Clement has insisted the forward is not for sale amid growing MLS interest. Sargent missed the Canaries’ FA Cup match this weekend after informing the club he was focused on a potential transfer, with Clement saying there would be consequences.

According to multiple reports, negotiations remain ongoing, and no agreement has been reached, but Toronto are optimistic about completing the deal despite resistance from the English Championship side.

Norwich head coach Philippe Clement publicly addressed the situation after his team’s 5–1 FA Cup victory over Walsall, revealing that Sargent made himself unavailable for the match due to transfer-related concerns rather than injury.

“He sent me a message to say that he was not available today because of transfer things that are in his head,” Clement said. “That is obviously not something we want and it will have consequences. We need to speak about that this week inside the club.”

Fabrizio Romano and ESPN reported the news of Toronto's bid

Clement was firm in his stance, reiterating that the club has no intention of selling the 25-year-old during the current window.

“The club has been really clear,” Clement said. “Josh and his agent know the situation. He will not leave in this transfer window.”

Injury Update McClean Out for FA Cup Match vs Walsall

Norwich City Head Coach Philippe Clement has been speaking to the press ahead of the Canaries home game against Walsall in the FA Cup tomorrow afternoon

Captain Kenny McLean is not expected to be involved, with Clement indicating an unspecified minor fitness issue, but the Scot is expected to be available for the return to Championship action next weekend.

Clement also confirmed that both recent signing Ali Ahmed and fit again fellow wide player, Papa Amadou Diallo, are not under being considered for selection this weekend.  Both need more time on the training pitch to build up their fitness before being included

Young midfielder Gabe Forsyth is now in the early stages of his return to first team training. Forsyth has not featured in the first team since November 2024, after a long running complicated knee injury that has required multiple surgeries to repair.

Shane Duffy, Jeffrey Schlupp  and Amankwah Forson who are all out with hamstring injuries remain longer term absentees and are not expected in the next week or two

Philippe Clement Expected To Field A Strong Team For FA Cup Match vs Walsall

Reading Philippe Clements pre match interviews ahead of the FA Cup clash at home today vs Walsall it sounds likely he will pick a strong squad for the game.  He has repeatedly spoken about the importance of developing a winning culture in the club, and not prioritising the Championship over the FA Caup

“It's not that the FA Cup has less importance than the Championship, although we know the situation that we are in,” he said. “I want to create a culture of winners also, and not people who think, ‘Okay, this game is important, and that game is less important’.

"That would be the worst thing that can happen with a group of players from my side. I don't believe in that so the FA Cup is important and the same importance as the Championship.

“And in the past, enough teams from the Championship reached semi finals or even finals or even won the trophy. I'm not speaking about that now, because we need to clearly raise our levels, but we need to be ambitious in every competition that we are in.

"That's the culture I want to create in this club and in this dressing room. So same importance for me this weekend as the Championship.”

Done Deal: Norwich To Sign Irish Teenage Prospect Luke Chukwu

Following the departure earlier in the week of 3 young players from the Under 21 squad it is now reported that Norwich City are set to sign young winger Luke Chukwu from Irish side Bohemians.

The 18-year-old will fly to England tomorrow to complete the move, after a deal was agreed between the clubs for his transfer.

The plan is for him to initially play for both Norwich City's under-18s and under-21s, having featured for Bohemians' academy sides so far this season.

Chukwu is also an Irish youth international at under-17 level, with two caps to his name, and has previously featured for his country in the under-15s.

Chukwu has struggled with injuries during 2025, but will become the latest addition to Norwich's academy as sporting director Ben Knapper continues to expand and improve the club's development squads.

Transfer Rumour: Norwich Reported To Be Interested In Birmingham's Marc Leonard

Birmingham Live is reporting that the door is open for the midfielder to move on from Birmingham City this month. They note that a loan is most likely with his contract running until 2028, but Leonard favours a move amid frustration over his game time, having been left out of the match day squad at the weekend.

The report adds that Championship clubs have been keen over the past 12 months. Sheffield United and Norwich City have been among those reported to have been interested but it remains to be seen if any make a move this winter.
